Turn a photo into wall art on a skateboard deck

Somewhere on your phone there's a photo that deserves better than a camera roll. Putting it on a skateboard deck turns it into an object — something with weight and edges that hangs in the hallway and gets asked about. Here's how the custom deck works and how to get the best result.

Which photos work

Tall subjects are easiest: a person standing, a car photographed from the front three-quarter, a tree, a wave, a building, a dog sitting up. Wide photos work too — you either crop to the part that matters, or choose a horizontal deck or a set of three so the whole scene fits.

Resolution matters less than you'd think for a single deck. A phone photo from the last few years is plenty. For a set of three, where the picture is spread over three boards, a photo of 3,000 pixels or more on the long side keeps things crisp. Avoid heavily compressed images saved from WhatsApp or social media if you have the original.

See it on the deck before you buy

On the custom deck page, upload your image and it appears on the deck straight away. Drag to move it, use the zoom slider to size it, and switch between portrait, landscape and set-of-three. If your photo doesn't fill the deck's shape, pick a background colour for the gaps — black, white, cream, navy or anything you like — or press “Fill the gaps with AI” and the surroundings are painted outward while your photo stays exactly as it is in the middle.

No photo? Describe it

If you have an idea rather than an image, the AI studio on the same page paints it for you: describe what you want, pick a style (photoreal, illustration, watercolour, retro poster, line art, comic or abstract) and it appears on the deck in about half a minute. You get three creations a day free, so it's worth thinking about the description before you press the button.

What happens after you order

We check every custom order by hand. If your image needs a small adjustment to print well — a tighter crop, a nudge off the truck holes — we'll make it and email you a proof. Nothing is printed until you've approved it. Once you have, the deck is printed onto cast vinyl, wrapped onto real maple, laminated in gloss or matte, and dispatched within 5 working days with the hidden wall mount in the box.

Ideas that work

A family photo from a holiday. The car on the day you collected it. A wedding shot in black and white. A child's drawing, scanned. A company logo for the office. A pet. The view from a favourite walk. A poster or album-style illustration you've designed yourself. If you'd rather hand it over, choose “Design it for me” and our designer lays it out for £20, proof included.

Single custom deck £59, set of three £159. Start with a photo.
