FAQ

The decks

What exactly am I buying?

A real skateboard deck, printed with artwork and finished for the wall. Each one is an 8" × 31.75" 7-ply Canadian maple deck — the same thing skaters ride — with the art printed edge to edge on cast vinyl and sealed under a UV laminate. It's made as wall art, not for riding: there are no trucks or wheels and the laminate isn't built to take a kerb.

Gloss or matte?

Gloss has more depth and punch and suits photographic and colourful designs; matte is softer, has almost no reflection and suits ink-wash, abstract and portrait pieces, or rooms with a lot of window light. Both are the same price.

Are these hand-painted?

No. The artwork is printed at high resolution onto cast vinyl and wrapped onto the deck in our workshop. The result is sharper and far more consistent than a painted deck, and the laminate protects it from fading and fingerprints.

How big is a deck on the wall?

About 81 cm tall and 20 cm wide — roughly the height of an A1 poster but a fifth of the width. That tall, narrow shape is what makes decks work in places a frame won't: beside a door, on a landing, in a hallway, or between two windows.

Mounting

How does it hang?

Every deck ships with a hidden wall mount, fixings and a paper hanging template. The mount fixes to the wall with two screws, the deck sits on it through the truck holes, and from the front you see nothing but the deck floating a few millimetres off the wall. Fitting takes about ten minutes with a drill and a spirit level.

Can I hang it sideways?

Yes. The mount works in either orientation. Our horizontal collection is composed specifically for sideways hanging, but any deck can be hung landscape if it suits the space.

Does it work on plasterboard?

Yes, with plasterboard plugs (included). A deck weighs around a kilo, so it doesn't need a stud.

Sets of three

How do the triptych sets work?

One wide picture is split across three decks. Hang them about 25 mm apart using the template supplied and the image runs straight through the gaps, so it reads as one piece from across the room and three from up close. Sets come with three mounts and a single template that positions all three.

Custom decks

Can I put my own photo or artwork on a deck?

Yes — that's the custom deck. Upload a photo, logo or illustration and you'll see it on the deck straight away; you can move it, zoom it, choose a background colour for the gaps, and switch between a single deck, a horizontal deck or a set of three. If you don't have artwork, describe what you want and our AI studio will paint it onto the deck for you (three goes a day, free). We check every order by hand and email you a proof before anything is printed.

What resolution does my image need to be?

The bigger the better. A modern phone photo is fine for a single deck; for a set of three, a photo of at least 3,000 pixels on the long side gives the best result. If your image is small or an odd shape, use the zoom and background colour controls, or press “Fill the gaps with AI” and the surroundings are painted outward while your picture stays untouched in the middle.

Can you design it for me?

Yes. Choose “Design it for me” on the custom deck and our in-house designer lays it out for £20 extra, proof included.

Delivery and returns

How long does it take?

Every deck is made to order. Standard designs are dispatched within 5 working days; custom decks are dispatched within 5 working days of you approving the proof. UK delivery is by DPD: Standard (£6.95, 2–4 working days) or Next Day (£9.95). We use DPD rather than the post because a deck is a long parcel.

Do you ship outside the UK?

Yes, to the EU and a number of other countries — rates are shown at checkout. If your country isn't listed, get in touch and we'll quote. Customers outside the UK are responsible for any import duties.

What if I change my mind?

Standard-range decks can be returned within 14 days of delivery for a full refund, unused and in their original packaging. Custom decks are made with your own artwork so can't be returned once the proof is approved, unless they arrive damaged or with a printing fault — in which case send us a photo within 48 hours and we'll put it right. Full details in our refund policy.

Is it a good gift?

It's one of the better ones. Decks are light enough to post, hard to get wrong (the range covers surf, cars, bikes, landscapes, portraits and abstract), and a custom deck with a family photo or a picture of someone's car is the kind of present people keep. Order at least a week before you need it to allow for printing and delivery.
